BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) –

FIRST ALERT UPDATE: The remnants of a complex of rain and storms will produce wet weather across west Alabama this morning. This wet weather will gradually dissipate later this morning, with a break in the rain through late morning and midday. Showers and storms are expected to redevelop after 3 p.m. over far northwest areas. Some of these storms could be severe, with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Over time these storms should form into a more organized line and track east through the evening, with the primary risk being wind and hail. Some data suggests this axis of rain and storms won’t reach places like Birmingham and Alabaster until after 8 p.m. We are tracking a large complex of rain and storms over south Mississippi this morning. This complex should track along the coast and many times these setups can limit instability further north, so this could work in our favor later today. Keep a close watch on the First Alert Weather app and WBRC for updates as we track the stormy weather across the state.

REST OF THE WEEK AND WEEKEND: We will have big improvements tomorrow, with the rain exiting before sunrise. The sky will clear, with afternoon highs reaching into the middle 70s. It is going to be a bit chilly Saturday morning, with lows nearing 50° in some areas. The weather is going to be beautiful during the day, with highs in the upper 70s under a mostly sunny sky. Sunday also looks dry, with pleasantly warm temperatures and increasing clouds late.

FIRST ALERT FOR HEAVY RAIN MONDAY: Another big upper-level storm system will track across the region beginning late Sunday night. This will bring a rainy setup for Monday, with the possibility of embedded storms. The unstable sector of this storm system could lift into the far southeast areas on Monday so we can’t rule out a strong storm or two. The bigger story, however, looks to be high rain totals with a possible flood threat for the start of the week. A cold front trailing this system will arrive next Wednesday so this will likely bring another increase in the chance of rain for mid-week.
